Digital cosmetic dentistry with Photoshop

I was working on a website recently and had the need to find a good shot of a model for a header. So after hours of scouring iStockphoto.com, I finally narrowed it down to about 10 models. The 10 become 5, the 5 became 3, the 3 became 2, and the 2 became 1. Finally! I had found the perfect model! So I buy the photo, open it up in Photoshop, and take a look at her in full-res, only to find that she has some seriously jaggedy teeth. The problem? The website is for a dentist. Well, I don't really want to go back to istock at this point, so it was time to whip out the Photoshop artillery. Some clone brushing, overlay blending, level adjustments, and good old fashioned brushing (thank you MS Paint skills!) finally led to the result I was looking for. Hooray Photoshop! Where would I be with you?

Nice work! My friend is trying to get me a "free copy"....I can't wait. I love that program, although I am not quite a pro like you!

Thanks Em! It was funny, right after I posted this I noticed she had a piercing by her lip which I got rid of too. AND her hair color clashed with the color scheme of the site, so I dyed it red.

There are TONS of great tutorials and resources for learning Photoshop. I've got a good book I could lend you for practice and tips, and could send you a few links when you're ready to get started.

Here's a link of the red-headed, non-pierced model in the context of a homepage mockup in case you were interested...

That looks perfect. You do such a great job. I cannot think of another career for you unless it was writing scripts for a morbid cartoon like Zim.

Yeah, I will let you know when I want to borrow that book. I would love it. I want to do some more digital scrapbooking and do a few secret projects :).

very cool. I was just thinking, man, I wish I could see the new, red-hair non-piercing girl...

And then you provided it!
Thanks Mike. You're good.

Good job, Mike!
Makes you wonder if ALL the beautiful people in magazines and on websites have been photoshopped. Probably.
Keep up the great work...

I know you showed me the after picture last time you were down, but I checked out the website again and just wanted to tell you how GREAT it looks! The model is perfect (the red hair was a stroke of genius) and the website is beautiful. You are so gifted with what you do, combining artistry with form and function. Nice work!

Well done - jaggedy teeth:) Where would one find this web-site you've been working on? I'd love to see it!

Very cool photoshop work. It would be REALLY funny/interesting to see what she looks like with way fake plastic teeth photoshopped in to cover her jagged teeth.

Nice work on smoothing out her jagged up teeth. She's pretty cute. I was going to ask you for her number until I saw the lip piercing.
